Eight days, three camps. Instead of packing up every morning, you base yourself in three places for two or three nights each: the east coast near Ras Irissel, the dragon's blood forest at Firmihin, and the lagoon at Detwah. From each one you head out by 4x4. You see the same island as the full circuit, with far less time spent taking down tents.
It is still eight days, because the flight is weekly. The difference is pace: two sunrises in the forest instead of one, and evenings that start at camp rather than on the road.

Met at the airport and straight into the 4x4s. The road runs east past Hadibo with the Haghier mountains inland, then along the coast to the first camp near Ras Irissel, the island's eastern tip. The crew sets up the camp.

Up early for sunrise on the Arher dunes, where sand has piled high against the cliffs above a freshwater stream. Then snorkelling at Dihamri, the island's most accessible reef, and a drive up through bottle trees and dragon's blood trees to the natural infinity pool at Homhil. For anyone with energy left, an optional walk onto the Momi plateau before sunset.

A choice of mornings: the climb to Hoq Cave and its long limestone chambers, an early start fishing with local fishermen, or simply the beach. In the afternoon, the pools of Kalysan canyon: white rock, clear water and room to swim.

Through Wadi Defarhu to the Zahek dunes on the south coast, where a camel ride is usually on offer, then Digub Cave above the southern plain. Up onto the Diksam plateau for the view over the Dirhur canyon, and the slowest, roughest crossing of the week into Firmihin. Camp among the dragon's blood trees.

Sunrise on the lagoon, then a boat along the cliffs to Shuab, a beach you cannot reach any other way. Spinner dolphins are often alongside. Swimming, then back for lunch; the afternoon is free, or spent in the fishing town of Qalansiyah.

Out
A final sunrise over Detwah, then pack up and drive to the airport, past the old Soviet tanks on the coast. Aim to be there three hours before departure.

Both figures are approximate. The exact price depends on your dates, your group size and the flight rotation, and you get it in writing when you enquire, before you pay anything. Why the same trip is quoted so differently across the market is covered in what Socotra actually costs.
Socotra is a cash-USD island: no working ATMs, no card acceptance. Bring $500–800 in small denominations, and note that only crisp notes from 2009, 2013 or 2017 onwards are reliably accepted.

If the flight does not come
In January 2026 roughly 600 travellers sat on Socotra for about a week when the rotation stopped. It is the clearest risk on the trip, and the written terms across this market are all over the place: one operator charges $100 per person per day and says plainly that no cash refund will ever be issued for a cancelled flight, offering only non-transferable credit; another promises a full deposit refund; two put every extra night entirely on the traveller; one is silent on force majeure altogether. Travellers who were caught in January 2026 have publicly described recovering money by bank chargeback after being ignored, and being billed with no cost breakdown. Before you pay anything, get the terms for your dates in writing: who keeps the camp, food, vehicle and guide running, who pays for the extra nights, and what is refunded. We ask the operator for exactly that and send it to you with your quote. Treat a vague answer from anyone as an answer.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the classic circuit?
It covers almost the same places, from three bases instead of seven. You spend two or three nights at each camp and head out by day, so there is less packing and two full sunrises at Firmihin. The trade-off is longer drives on the days you move between regions.
Is the flight included?
No. The return flight between Jeddah and Socotra is extra, usually about $950–1,100, and we book it for you: seats are released to licensed operators rather than sold online. The price shown is the land price per person.
How exact is the price?
It is an approximate land price per person. The final figure depends on your dates, the size of your group and the flight rotation, and you get it in writing when you enquire, before you pay anything.
What are the camps like?
A tent each with a mattress and bedding, set up by the crew, and a camp kitchen. Toilet and shower arrangements vary from site to site, so ask for the details for your dates when you enquire.
Do I need a visa?
Socotra uses an entry permit sponsored by a licensed local operator, not a visa you apply for yourself. It is arranged for you and included in the price. It is usually issued a week or two before travel, so do not leave booking to the last minute.
When can I go?
October to April. The southwest monsoon closes the island from roughly May to September: winds pick up, sea crossings stop and flights are often cancelled.
